Given the current events, we may all have more time on our hands than we know what to do with! With that being said, now is the perfect time to tidy up your apartment. After all, Spring has officially begun! If you aren’t sure where to start, here are some tips for spring cleaning your apartment.
Make a Schedule
If you haven’t cleaned in a while, it can be an overwhelming task to tackle. Before you begin, try making a schedule that will break up the cleaning by room or section of your apartment. In doing so, you won’t feel overwhelmed trying to complete the entire apartment at once, and you’ll know exactly where to start.
After you’ve made your schedule and have decided where you want to start, it’s time for the fun part — decluttering! Before you even think about cleaning it’s important to declutter. Often times, the only reason our space looks messy is due to an overabundance of stuff laying around. Go through drawers, closets, and shelves and get rid of things you truly don’t need. Create 3 different piles: one to keep, one to give away, and one to throw away. A good rule of thumb is, if you haven’t used it in a year, you probably won’t ever use it. Get rid of it so you can begin your spring cleaning on the right foot!
Now it’s Time to Clean
Since you likely have some time on your hands, now you can deep clean your apartment. For starters, you could begin in the kitchen since this is likely the most trafficked area of the apartment. Begin by cleaning your kitchen sink, and then your microwave and oven. Next, of course, you can wipe down your countertops. Once you’ve cleaned your kitchen appliances, move on to the bathroom sink, toilet, and shower. Afterward, you can do some cleaning and dusting of surfaces in your living room and bedroom areas. We sometimes forget how much dust can collect on things like curtains, blinds, and ceiling fans — and now is the time to fix that. Once all of your surfaces have been properly cleaned, you can begin to organize!
Once you have deep cleaned everything, now you can begin to organize. Our drawers, closets, or cabinets can easily get cluttered over time, no matter what’s in them — kitchen utensils, clothes, or toiletries. Like we said in the beginning, take it one room at a time. Go through your dresser, then your closet, and make your way around the apartment, organizing anything and everything you please.
Keep in mind, spring cleaning your apartment isn’t going to happen overnight! It will likely take a few days of decluttering, deep cleaning, and organizing to achieve the best results. Don’t get overwhelmed; you have plenty of time to break it up day by day. Happy cleaning!
