The Tom Tom Fest is an annual, week-long festival in downtown Charlottesville. Here, we commemorate nationwide leaders, designers, influencers, and entrepreneurs. The event is put together by the The Tom Tom Foundation, which is a nonprofit organization. In order to coincide with Thomas Jefferson’s birthday, it occurs in April. With hundreds of speakers and thousands of attendees, the mission is to inspire future innovators and give them the resources to succeed. From conferences and keynote speeches to various fun events, there’s something everyone can enjoy!

Although people believe that Thomas Jefferson never publicly celebrated his own birthday, the first public event in his honor was in 1830. This was four years after his death. Monticello continues the tradition, putting on a ceremony on the West Lawn in remembrance. Recipients of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation Medals are recognized at the celebration. This is a highly distinguished award given by the University of Virginia. Furthermore, the university pays respect to Jefferson by planting a tree.
