Although times are far from normal, it is still summer. It’s easy to feel as if you can’t engage in as many fun activities due to COVID-19. While restaurants, coffee shops, and many other places are open with restrictions, it is still nerve-wracking to live life like we’re used to. However, we all still deserve to make memories and enjoy ourselves, while also continuing to take precautions. Don’t let this summer be a bummer! Check out these activities that you’ll want to add to your summer bucket list.

Sunset or Sunrise Hike

One of the best parts of living in Charlottesville is the beauty of our surrounding area. Make it a goal this summer to go on a sunrise or sunset hike! While a hike at any time of day is fun, you can catch a beautiful view when the sun is rising or setting. Set your alarm bright and early, or head out when the day is wrapping up to catch beautiful views and an incredible experience. Just remember to bring plenty of water!

Go Camping

Have you ever been camping? There’s no better time to try than now! Discover a local campground, gather a friend or your family, and head out on your adventure. You’ll feel at ease, leaving the troubles of the world behind for even just a night. Have a bonfire, roast s’mores, and tell stories —it’ll be a much-needed break for everyone!

Try a New Recipe

If you like to cook or bake, or even if you don’t, it’s always fun to try something new! Is there something you’ve always wanted to make? Bread, eggplant parmesan, lasagna, cake — the options are endless. Pick your goal recipe, and give it a whirl!

Go on a Day Trip

If you can’t go on vacation this summer, a day trip is just what you need to get out of town for a bit. While you could plan it out, you could also plan on waking up and deciding the day of where to go. There’s something a little more fun about spontaneity! Additionally, since Charlottesville is such a central location, there are plenty of different places you could go just for the day. Head over to Richmond for some city exploring, or venture to Shenandoah National Park for a scenic drive and beautiful hike. Where will your adventure take you?

Have a Movie Marathon

Rainy day? No problem! There’s no better excuse to lay around in your pajamas on the couch all day. Now’s the perfect time for a movie marathon! Whether it’s Harry Potter, some of the Marvel Movies, Indiana Jones, or more — there are plenty of fun movie marathons you can occupy your day with. Pick a Saturday or Sunday to unwind and enjoy some of your favorite films!

Try Something New

When’s the last time you tried something new? An easy way to keep life interesting is to try something new every day. While this can seem unrealistic, it can really be a small thing. From a book, to a TV show, to a new dinner recipe, make it your new goal to try new things this summer!

Watch a Thunderstorm From Your Porch

Summer afternoon storms are typical. They can also be incredibly relaxing to watch from the comfort of your patio or balcony. Next time a storm rolls in, sit outside and watch it while you can! The lightning puts on a great show, and the smell of rain brings comfort and relaxation.

Have you made your summer bucket list yet? Don’t let these uncertain times prevent you from having an enjoyable summer. With these activities, you can still take precautions to stay healthy, while enjoying your summer.
