You’re driving in the car, deciding where you want to go to eat with your friend, spouse, or significant other. Indecisiveness takes over and neither one of you can settle on a place. So you finally suggest to go out for Mexican food. “Ah, I’m not really feeling Mexican though,” they reply, and the search continues. You throw out a few more names, all of which get vetoed by the other party. Suddenly going out to eat isn’t as easy as you thought. We’ve all been there. There are a ton of great restaurants in Charlottesville and choosing a spot to eat can be a difficult choice at times. Well, if you’re in need of a new place to try out, why not head out to the Downtown Mall and check out The Fitzroy?
The Fitzroy is a restaurant and bar on the Downtown Mall that offers a great weekday lunch menu, dinner menu, and Sunday brunch. As soon as you walk in, the black-and-white tile, exposed brick wall, and dark wood accents add to the warm atmosphere. If it’s a nice day out, there’s even outdoor seating so you can get some fresh air while you dine.
Lunch at The Fitzroy
If you work on the Downtown Mall or in the vicinity, The Fitzroy is one of the best lunch spots in Charlottesville. Their lunch menu may be condensed, but it comes with several mouth-watering options including a fried chicken sandwich topped with lemon cayenne aioli, a Reuben, a classic Burger with their own Fitz sauce, and a roasted chicken salad. You also get your choice of a side such as sweet potato fries, clam chowder, a side salad, or more. They also have several salad options as well. For only $12, you get a delicious meal that will help you make it through the rest of the workday!
What’s on the Dinner Menu?
Their dinner menu is a bit more encompassing, with appetizers, soups and salads, sandwiches, signature dishes, sides, and dessert. For seafood lovers, they serve up a fresh fish of the day. If you are vegetarian, the Butternut Squash Risotto is a must-try. A featured cocktail list is sure to please those who fancy a drink with their meal.
After dinner, don’t forget about dessert! Wash down your meal with a Bourbon Chocolate Cake, Skillet Cookie with Vanilla Ice Cream, or a slice of cheesecake.
Brunch is where The Fitzroy really shines. Only from 10:30am – 2:30pm on Sunday, the restaurant offers a brunch buffet. It tends to get pretty crowded, so be sure to get there early! The price is $18 a person, but worth every penny. Fried chicken and waffles, cinnamon buns, and shrimp and grits are only a few of the items on the menu. Fill up on as much brunch food as your heart desires!
