Saturday, November 28th, is Small Business Saturday! While this holiday season looks a little different, we can still support local businesses. In fact, now more than ever, they need the help of their customers. Oftentimes, we don’t realize how impactful the coffee or baked goods we purchase from local shops are. For this reason, this holiday season, do what you can to shop local! Whether you complete your Christmas shopping at local stores, order takeout, or leave positive reviews on social media, you’ll be supporting small businesses. Check out some local businesses to support!

NoBull Burger

NoBull Burger offers a line of delicious veggie burgers! Although the idea was created by Crissanne, the owner, years ago, they opened up shop here in Charlottesville in 2011. Their veggie burgers are made in small batches using natural, whole-food ingredients. The end goal? To help people eat as close to the earth as possible, without sacrificing flavor! From sundried tomato to spicy Italian, they offer a few different flavors to choose from. Whether you’re vegetarian or not, you’ll want to try them!

Birch Street Goods

Birch Street Goods is a teacher-owned business that creates handmade materials to inspire and engage children. The owner, Karen, grew up crafting and creating. As an adult, she worked as a guide in Montessori primary classrooms and as a kindergarten and first-grade teacher. Combining her years of experience with passion, she created Birch Street Goods to share her products. The games and activities promote curiosity and independence in children. Do you have any children in your life in need of a unique holiday gift? Check out Birch Street Goods!

Cocoa & Spice

Do you have a sweet tooth? If so, you’ll want to check out Cocoa & Spice. If the answer is no, someone close to you likely does, and they’d love a gift from Cocoa & Spice! They specialize in handcrafted chocolates, confections, and drinking chocolate. The owner, Jennifer, graduated from the Ecole Chocolat Professional Chocolatier Program. Additionally, she apprenticed at East Van Roasters in Vancouver, Canada. With this in mind, they whip up delicious boxes of chocolate, almond and cashew bark, chocolate dipped Oreos, and more! Cocoa & Spice has the perfect gift for the sweet tooth in your life. Or, of course, you can buy some for yourself!

thicket

thicket carries fine jewelry created from real, botanical samples or other natural objects. They create delicate, minimal jewelry in silver or 14k gold. The entire creation process of their beautiful jewelry focuses on sustainability. For beautifully crafted rings, necklaces, and earrings, you’ll want to take a look at thicket’s creations.

La Vache Microcreamery

To create their handcrafted caramels, La Vache Microcreamery uses traditional French techniques with exceptional ingredients. La Vache means “holy cow,” the reaction many have after eating one of their caramels! With flavors like double espresso and lavender honey, you’ve never tasted anything quite like this. Additionally, the delicious caramels make for the perfect stocking stuffers!

Whether you’re looking for a gift or doing a little shopping for yourself, check out these local businesses! Not only will they appreciate your business, but you’ll enjoy a unique product not easily found elsewhere. Learn about other ways you can support small businesses during COVID-19.
