With only a few weeks left in December, the new year will be here before we know it! New Year’s Eve represents the beginning of another year, which means a fresh start. If you’ve had a rough or challenging year, now is the time to let the past go and move forward. Hopefully, the new year will bring good memories, new opportunities, and renewed energy. Have you decided how you’re going to spend the last moments of 2018? If you need some ideas, here are a few events going on New Year’s Eve in Charlottesville.
First Night Virginia
First Night Virginia first began back in 1982, modeled after the city of Boston’s First Night tradition that began in 1976. With a focus on bringing the community together, the event is family-friendly and alcohol-free. First Night Virginia takes place on the Downtown Mall, with events happening between 4:00 p.m. and 12:15 a.m. If purchased before December 28th, wristbands are $16 for adults, $6 for children, and $38 for a family of four. After that date, the admission increases to $20 for adults, $9 for kids, and $49 for families. If you have children under the age of five, there is no entry fee. The city offers free parking at Water Street and Market Street garages with your First Night wristband. For a full schedule and map of event locations, visit their website.
